About the position

As a Bus Operator at CapMetro, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient transportation services for the Austin community. This full-time position requires a commitment to providing excellent customer service while adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines. You will be responsible for operating buses on designated routes, ensuring that passengers feel welcome and informed throughout their journey. Your ability to communicate effectively, especially during service disruptions, will be essential in maintaining a positive experience for all riders. In addition to customer service, you will be tasked with ensuring the safety of on-road operations. This includes familiarizing yourself with assigned routes, detours, and ADA policies and procedures. You will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of ADA compliance and the proper operation of wheelchair lifts on various bus models. Reporting any incidents or accidents to dispatch promptly is critical, as is maintaining a clean driving record and stable work history. Your operational responsibilities will include collecting fares, performing pre and post-trip inspections, and entering any defects into the ZONAR system. You will be expected to follow exact routing instructions, depart on time, and report any issues that may disrupt scheduled service. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while ensuring the safety and satisfaction of passengers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and provide assistance as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Familiarize yourself with assigned routing and detours.
  • Maintain awareness of ADA Policies and Procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Properly operate all wheelchair lifts for each bus model.
  • Report any vehicular accidents or passenger incidents immediately to dispatch.
  • Collect prescribed fares and notify dispatch of any fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter defects into the ZONAR system.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Report any bunching of buses or other problems that may disrupt scheduled service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 10 years.
  • Must have a stable work history.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Texas CDL class B license with passenger endorsement.
  • 3 years of verifiable valid driver's license experience.

Nice-to-haves
