About the position

The Bus Operator is responsible for safely operating transit buses in revenue service according to the State of Louisiana traffic regulations, transporting passengers over established city routes according to a required time schedule. The position requires a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement. Operators will collect and count passenger fares, verify valid passes and identification cards, conduct ridership surveys, report bus stop and bus shelter problems, and handle delays due to accidents, street closures, and passenger misconduct incidents. Additionally, they will provide passengers with information regarding bus routes, answer service questions, and announce major bus stops and transfer points. The role also involves enforcing company policies regulating passenger conduct and operating other bus-related equipment including wheelchair lifts, ramps, and two-way radio systems.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate transit buses in revenue service according to traffic regulations.
  • Transport passengers over established city routes according to required time schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Available to work varying shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to pass physical agility tests with no limitations on upper or lower back.
  • Able to walk, kneel, bend, push and/or pull to complete moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Available to work the extra board six days per week after successful completion of orientation and training.
