About the position

The Business Analyst - Energy Trading & Risk Management position at Capco involves analysis, design, and consulting support within the energy sector. The role focuses on understanding clients' strategic directions and project goals, bridging the gap between user functionality and system developers, and translating business needs into IT applications. The successful candidate will engage in various consulting methodologies, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and project implementation, to optimize business processes and enhance system effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing, facilitating, documenting, and participating in client meetings/workshops.
  • Conducting structured gathering, research, and analysis.
  • Developing and evaluating procedures, controls, user requirements, and functional specifications to identify gaps between the current state and future state.
  • Creating business requirement documents (BRD's) into use cases/functional specifications for customization and implementation.
  • Requirements gathering, functional requirements, user stories, and documentation of business/data/application/technology architectures, requirements, and business rules.
  • Documenting and explaining problems and working to resolve software defects while ensuring technical compatibility and end-user satisfaction.
  • Analyzing, developing, and proposing enhancements to current business processes, reports, and applications to optimize system effectiveness.
  • Conducting customer interviews and producing meeting summaries.
  • Conducting market/client research and industry analysis of requirements.
  • Producing high-quality verbal and written consulting deliverables to effectively communicate project findings.
  • Generating reusable intellectual capital in the form of consulting methodology and templates, blueprints, and business cases.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in the Power & Natural Gas Space.
  • Deep understanding of power trading markets, ISO/RTO Markets, and power operations.
  • Experience with the implementation of Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) and/or Bid-to-Bill systems for power trading.
  • Experience working for a management consulting firm preferred.
  • Solid Business Analyst skills, including experience interviewing client executives to gather and document business requirements and process mapping.
  • Strong presentation skills and extensive experience writing successful project proposals.
  • Ability to demonstrate project management skills and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required; major in MIS, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Business or Financial Engineering preferred.
  • An advanced degree is desirable.
