About the position

The Business Analyst will support significant software technology development programs for CSBA and its members, under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer. This role involves defining, analyzing, prioritizing, and documenting business requirements to develop technical solutions that meet organizational needs. The analyst will engage with stakeholders, lead research and analysis, and contribute to strategic planning while ensuring effective communication of recommendations and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, document, and prioritize stakeholder business needs to inform technology solutions.
  • Dissect complex problems and translate them into actionable specifications.
  • Lead interviews, workshops, surveys, and research to understand business needs comprehensively.
  • Utilize analytical tools to interpret complex datasets and uncover patterns and opportunities.
  • Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Recommend decisions that drive efficiency, cost savings, and growth.
  • Map and evaluate existing business processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for optimization.
  • Develop strategies to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrate increases in operational efficiency and productivity from implemented improvements.
  • Build mutual trust through active engagement with stakeholders.
  • Model clear and effective communication to ensure alignment on goals and deliverables.
  • Enhance department reputation through demonstrated value to stakeholders.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to design and document solutions.
  • Create functional specifications, user stories, and system workflows for development.
  • Own the success of solutions and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with project management to implement project processes and monitor progress.
  • Identify risks and proactively address issues to mitigate delays.
  • Guide teams through transitions and facilitate testing and validation of solutions.
  • Contribute to strategic plans and objectives by applying subject matter expertise.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of large-scale technology-based business analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.
  • Experience with software tools supporting software development initiatives.
  • Research, analytical, and statistical experience, including qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Understanding of administrative principles and practices, including program development and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of California's Education System and overall Education Policy.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local government organizations and research methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in education policy research and analysis.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
