About the position

The Business Analyst (Metadata Specialist) plays a crucial role in the Office of the Chief Data Officer by coordinating activities to optimize and maximize the return on investment of data assets. This position involves strategic data analysis, data modeling, and providing direction on metadata and taxonomy to support the Board's mission and strategy. The analyst will also support metadata management operations and the administration of the Board's comprehensive data inventory, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in information architecture and data management efforts.
  • Researches, analyzes, and reviews business processes and data flows.
  • Supports business process and information flow re-engineering to meet data management goals.
  • Leverages business process engineering and metrics framework for data governance and quality efforts.
  • Analyzes metrics to quantify business risk and value associated with data governance.
  • Contributes to the development of data quality strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Works with business owners to define data quality rules and definitions.
  • Analyzes industry best practices for metadata and taxonomy development.
  • Develops methodologies, policies, and procedures for data collection and analysis.
  • Communicates effectively with clients to foster strong relationships.
  • Participates in working groups and committees as needed.
  • Develops professional skills and identifies directions for personal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, information science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience for FR-26 grade or 6 years for FR-27 grade.
  • Master's degree in a related field may substitute for some experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in information science or related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Data Management Professional, Six Sigma, or Project Management Professional.
  • Knowledge of semantic modeling and graph databases.
  • Experience analyzing information usage in large organizations.
  • Background in finance or economics.
  • Expertise in semantic tools and web technologies.
