About the position

The Financial Analyst position at Wagner College is a full-time role within the Finance and Business Office, which is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the College's fiscal activities. This office plays a crucial role in providing timely and accurate financial information to key stakeholders while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. The Financial Analyst will report directly to the Budget Manager and CFO, becoming an integral part of the team responsible for managing, executing, and supporting various complex strategic and operational financial activities. The role involves analyzing data for budgeting and forecasting purposes, which is essential for the College's financial planning and decision-making processes. In this position, the Financial Analyst will assist in the preparation and distribution of the annual operating budget, monitor and analyze financial results, trends, funding, expenses, and reserves in comparison to the budget and forecast. They will also support the preparation of reports and presentations on budget performance and conduct various analyses to ensure the College's financial health. The role requires collaboration with different departments to manage their budgets effectively and prepare necessary budget reclass journal entries. Additionally, the Financial Analyst will be involved in the financial oversight of the student employment process and will assist in compiling financial information for external reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and analytical skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, and experience with Oracle is a plus. The Financial Analyst will also need to exhibit strong communication skills to maintain effective relationships with various campus departments and outside organizations. Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation and distribution of the annual operating budget.
  • Monitor, review, and analyze financial results, trends, funding, expenses, and reserves in comparison to budget and forecast.
  • Support the preparation of reports and presentations on budget performance and supplemental analyses.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables, such as budget reconciliations, revenue/expense projections, and actual versus budgeted expenditures.
  • Compile financial information and documentation needed for external reporting.
  • Prioritize, identify, and resolve strategic and unit/department issues; recommend and develop resolutions and implement solutions.
  • Work with various departments to manage their budgets and prepare budget reclass journal entries when necessary.
  • Analyze benefits, dining, and additional pay expenses, and track all full-time and open positions.
  • Assist with financial and budgetary oversight of the student employment process.
  • Serve on improvement committees as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in financial analysis.
  • MS in Accounting or MBA preferred.
  • Financial experience with an institution of higher education or non-profit organization is highly desirable.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in Oracle is a plus.
  • Competence with verbal and written communication skills.
