About the position
The Business Banking Underwriter IV at Huntington Bank is responsible for underwriting Business Banking loans, assessing credit worthiness, and ensuring compliance with bank lending policies. This senior-level position involves managing a pipeline of complex loans, mentoring new hires, and collaborating with credit and risk teams to achieve departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite Business Banking loans to determine credit worthiness and compliance with lending policy.
- Maintain an individual pipeline of work to support Business Banking production.
- Review financial and credit application information to make sound credit decisions.
- Assess risk profiles of borrowers, particularly for loans with complex credit structures and customer exposure up to $10MM.
- Utilize single approval authority for loans up to $4MM.
- Assist in training and mentoring new hires and provide support for junior underwriters.
- Act as primary backup for the manager during team meetings and huddles.
- Collaborate with credit and segment risk teams to meet or exceed department goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of experience in business or commercial underwriting in a centralized lending environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other internet resources
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks without compromising quality
Nice-to-haves
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
- 3-4 years of leadership/management experience
- Ability to underwrite credit exposures in excess of $4MM
- Previous authority to underwrite and decision credits without additional signers
- Demonstrates confidence, assertiveness, and professionalism in interactions
