About the position

The Business Data Analyst Co-Op position at Emerson offers engineering students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analytics and intelligent automation. This temporary 8-month co-op assignment from January 2025 to August 2025 focuses on delivering impactful business solutions through data analysis, collaboration, and automation. The role involves working with internal customers to provide insights that drive data-driven decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support Flow Controls North America internal customers to provide insights for data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop understanding of business systems, processes, and business goals & objectives.
  • Collect, clean, categorize, and analyze large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • Build SQL queries and algorithms to mine data for hidden patterns and predictive insights.
  • Create compelling interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI, Excel, Python, etc.
  • Communicate insights through clear data storytelling to influence decisions.
  • Develop statistical models for forecasting, classification, and optimization.
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with process owners to map workflows.
  • Document processes and identify opportunities for automation and improvement.
  • Leverage Intelligent Automation tools, including Robocorp, Python, Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Noetix.
  • Design, develop, and implement custom solutions for the automation of existing or new processes.
  • Create documentation and training materials and deliver training to users on new automations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot automations built.
  • Provide support and guidance to Citizen Developers.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to support business performance.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university working towards a bachelor's in mathematics, IT, Business or related field.
  • Express a systematic and logical approach to problem solving.
  • Self-starter comfortable working independently with limited direction.
  • Must show accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to full-time (40 hour) Spring/Summer (January 2025- August 2025) Co-op experience in Marshalltown, IA.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data analytics, business intelligence or related roles.
  • Business metric analysis.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like SQL, R, Python.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Knowledge of how to create and apply the most accurate algorithms to datasets.
  • General knowledge of regression modeling or classification.
  • Understand integrated financial systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
