About the position

The Business Data Analyst Sr. is a pivotal role within the Finance and Analytics Team at the University of Utah Health, specifically under the Department of DFPM-Administration. This position reports directly to the Business Intelligence Manager and is integral in supporting the financial, clinical, and research operations across the department. The analyst will engage closely with various stakeholders to understand their data needs for a range of projects and programs. This role encompasses the entire analytical process, from formulating questions to comprehend requirements, developing and validating data, and ultimately presenting the findings. The successful candidate will need to possess and continuously develop strong technical skills necessary for data analysis, validation, and presentation. In this role, the analyst will be responsible for maintaining existing reports, ensuring their accuracy and timely execution. They will also create automations for current reports and processes using Python, thereby enhancing efficiency. Collaboration with stakeholders is crucial to grasp their data requirements and project objectives. The analyst will conduct thorough data analyses to provide meaningful insights and recommendations, develop and interpret complex datasets, and design dashboards and visualizations that track key metrics to support decision-making processes. Additionally, the role involves documenting data workflows and ensuring the integrity and security of data. The position requires excellent teamwork skills, a commitment to customer service, strong internal motivation, and a willingness to learn. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in various tools and software, including SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Python, to effectively perform data extraction, transformation, and analysis. Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing reports and ensure that they continue running promptly and accurately.
  • Create automations for existing reports and processes using Python.
  • Support senior BI Manager in identifying new opportunities and conducting analysis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and project goals.
  • Conduct thorough data analysis to deliver meaningful information and recommendations.
  • Develop, review, validate, and interpret complex datasets.
  • Design and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to track key metrics and support decision-making.
  • Create and document data workflows, processes, and methodologies.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security.
  • Communicate findings and present data-driven recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Utilize various tools and software (e.g., SQL, Excel, Tableau, Python) to perform data extraction, transformation, and analysis.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Four to six years of experience in the field or in a related area required.
  • Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong preference for candidates with skills and experience in SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Python.
