About the position

The Business Data Analyst position at the University of Utah involves analyzing and working with data to assess the effectiveness and impact of the J. Willard Marriott Library. The role focuses on conducting assessment activities, standardizing data collection, and communicating findings to inform decision-making. The analyst will collaborate with library leadership and other campus units to define key performance indicators and support data reporting for accreditation and other requirements. This position is designed as a hybrid role, allowing for both on-campus and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and work with data to assess library spaces, collections, and services.
  • Conduct and coordinate assessment activities to measure and communicate the Library's effectiveness and impact.
  • Inventory current data collection across the Marriott Library and identify gaps.
  • Plan, develop, and implement assessment programs aligned with the Library's mission and strategic goals.
  • Coordinate data collection for annual reporting and operational statistics across campus libraries.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for ARL, ACRL, IPEDS, and university data submissions.
  • Use data to report and tell stories about the Marriott Library.
  • Collaborate with library and campus partners to gather, analyze, and report relevant data.
  • Implement best practices for data collection, management, and storage in line with university policies.
  • Build capacity for assessment in the library through training and mentoring staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Two to four years of experience in data analysis or a related field.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in data analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including experience with assessment tools and strategies.
  • Experience with data visualization tools for effective data storytelling.
  • Ability to produce data-rich reports that are easily understood by various stakeholders.
  • Experience with assessment in libraries and/or higher education.
  • Project management experience and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of best practices for efficient and sustainable data collection, management, and storage.
