About the position

The Business Data Steward Manager in Finance is a pivotal role responsible for managing critical business processes across a line of business or corporate function. This position entails overseeing critical data elements (CDEs) within assigned Data Domains and ensuring enterprise-wide coordination of Data Domain-related activities in alignment with established policies, standards, and best practices in data management and governance. The manager will be accountable for onboarding CDEs and business metadata, defining appropriate Data Quality rules and controls, maintaining the Business Glossary, and supporting the resolution of Data Quality issues as part of the Data Quality Issue Management Group. Additionally, the role involves preparing data sharing and delivery agreements for data shared outside the Business Unit or Corporate Group, clearly delineating the data being shared, its usage limitations, and restrictions on dissemination to other parties, systems, or applications. The Business Data Steward Manager will also define data privacy rules and ensure alignment with the Enterprise Privacy Policy in collaboration with the Chief Privacy Officer. This includes defining archiving, retention, and data destruction requirements for CDEs in collaboration with the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) and Chief Privacy Officer. The role requires a strong focus on data quality, metadata management, and compliance with data privacy regulations, ensuring that data practices align with corporate strategy and ethical standards. The manager will work closely with various stakeholders, including Technical Data Stewards, Data Quality Leads, and the Enterprise Data Governance Council, to ensure effective data governance and management practices are implemented across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and validate business critical processes and associated critical data elements (CDEs).
  • Onboard new CDEs specific to corresponding Business Unit or Corporate Group in collaboration with Technical Data Stewards.
  • Propose new CDEs and Data Domains to the Data Domain Working Group for approval.
  • Review assigned CDEs and their business metadata on an established frequency basis.
  • Discover and execute CDE change requests in collaboration with Metadata COE and Technical Data Stewards.
  • Submit CDE change requests for approval to the Data Domain Working Group.
  • Perform business process and traceability mapping with Business Unit representatives and Technical Data Stewards.
  • Define Data Quality rules and standards for corresponding Business Unit or Corporate Group.
  • Collaborate with Data Quality Lead and team to align Data Quality rules with enterprise-level standards.
  • Partner with Technical Business Stewards to implement Data Quality rules into appropriate systems.
  • Monitor Data Quality activities, track data issues and risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in Data Quality Issue Management Group and provide specific information.
  • Escalate Data Quality issues to the Enterprise Data Governance Council as necessary.
  • Assist in resolving Data Quality Issues as part of various working groups.
  • Onboard new CDEs' related business metadata into the Enterprise Metadata Repository.
  • Update central metadata repository with business metadata content.
  • Review CDEs' metadata on an established frequency basis.
  • Define Data Privacy rules and align them with the Enterprise Privacy Policy.
  • Monitor data security for data elements and report privacy issues to the Data Privacy Group.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience managing business processes or experience in technical-related decisions on the business side.
  • Ability to translate enterprise strategic planning information into software and data management needs.
  • Executive level communications skills, including strong negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Significant knowledge of current and emerging application software products and tools.
  • Extensive project management experience, including multi-million dollar projects completed on time and within budget.
  • Strong analytical and architectural skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of internal client relationships.
  • Knowledge of all phases of the software engineering life cycle and experience with process improvement models.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in business analytics, computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a financial institution with a focus on financial crimes prevention.
  • Extensive knowledge of Data and Analytics including emerging trends.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience and proficiency in managing budgets.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence in financial institutions.
  • Banking or financial services experience, especially in a particular niche area.
