The Business Development Manager (BDM) role can be filled at either the BDM or Senior BDM level, with specific qualifications for each. This position is territory-based, covering defined territories and vertical markets within Ohio, and offers the flexibility to work from home, provided the candidate resides in the state. The ideal candidate will be located in the Northeast Ohio metropolitan area, near Cleveland or Akron. This role requires up to 75% travel within the designated territory, with travel expenses covered by Constellation's standard policy. The primary purpose of this position is to close new Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade and Improvement projects. This consultative sales role focuses on proactively identifying, developing, and closing integrated, construction-project-based solutions that address the Efficiency, Resiliency, and Sustainability goals of our customers. The BDM will drive annual sales results for Energy Efficiency, Resiliency, and Sustainability-based project solutions, ensuring the delivery of signed project implementation contracts to meet annual sales quotas. The role involves managing a designated sales territory, establishing and maintaining a viable sales pipeline, facilitating customer meetings, and ensuring alignment of project deliverables with customer needs. Additionally, the BDM will participate in trade shows and networking opportunities to expand their professional brand and leverage existing market contacts to drive business development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive annual sales results for Energy Efficiency, Resiliency, and Sustainability-based project solutions, delivering signed project implementation contracts to achieve annual sales quota.
  • Proactively manage designated sales territory focused on securing organic business within the sales territory.
  • Establish and maintain a viable sales pipeline of qualified opportunities to achieve annual sales quota.
  • Facilitate in-person customer meetings focused on identifying the needs, challenges, and compelling events confronting the customer.
  • Manage all internal functional teams to ensure all project deliverables align with the established sales strategy addressing customer needs and expectations.
  • Establish and expand professional brand within the sales territory through participation in trade shows, conferences, seminars, and networking opportunities.
  • Leverage existing market contacts and relationships to drive prospecting and business development activities.
  • Lead role for all project interviews, presentations, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Ensure forecasting accuracy associated with the closing of implementation contracts.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting as required by the sales leader.
  • Participate actively in all team meetings and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of direct, consultative, solutions-based sales experience for BDM level, or 8 years for Senior BDM level, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Possess conceptual selling skills accompanied by strong financial/business acumen.
  • Demonstrated success in originating, negotiating, and closing complex business transactions.
  • Track record of success meeting and/or exceeding annual sales quotas.
  • Superior interpersonal and group presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop, cultivate, maintain, and leverage contact networks and business relationships.
  • Experience utilizing a CRM platform.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and experience.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct sales experience successfully originating new business within energy efficiency/sustainability, mechanical contracting, consulting engineering, architecture, original equipment manufacturer, or municipal financial services.
  • Established executive level contact base within school districts, higher education, healthcare, and/or state or local governments.
  • In-depth understanding of building and mechanical infrastructure, technologies, and systems.
  • Experience in Energy Efficiency, Energy as a Service, Distributed Generation, and Sustainability.
  • Successful track record of effectively developing and managing a large sales territory.
  • Experience managing sales cycles exceeding twelve months.
  • Ability to identify, engage, and motivate decision makers to take action.
  • Direct sales experience in the defined market territory.
  • Formalized sales training program via Sandler, Miller Heiman, or equivalent.
