About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) at Nucor Corporation will spearhead the market development initiatives for the Nucor Insulated Panel Group (NIPG) in Chicago and the surrounding north central states. This role is pivotal in promoting insulated panels to a diverse clientele, including architects, designers, engineers, and owners. The BDM will be responsible for direct engagement with architectural and engineering firms, as well as design-build firms and targeted owners/developers, to drive the adoption of NIPG products. In this position, the BDM will conduct thorough market research to align promotional activities with the company's growth initiatives. This includes organizing and leading educational sessions, known as lunch and learns, for the targeted customer base. The BDM will also represent NIPG at various local, regional, and national tradeshows and events, such as those organized by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Travel within the assigned geographic markets is essential to develop design specifications and follow up on leads generated through marketing efforts. The BDM will utilize Microsoft Dynamics CRM to support pipeline management activities and maintain effective communication with the sales teams of NIPG brands. A strong emphasis will be placed on delivering exceptional customer service and education, ensuring that all interactions uphold the highest standards of professionalism. Additionally, the BDM will be responsible for collecting and communicating market intelligence and trends, thriving in a competitive atmosphere while focusing on customer support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead market development activities for Nucor Insulated Panel Group with architects, designers, engineers, and owners.
  • Promote insulated panels directly to architectural firms, engineering firms, design-build firms, and targeted owners/developers.
  • Conduct market research to align promotional efforts with growth initiatives.
  • Organize and conduct lunch and learns with the targeted customer base.
  • Attend and present NIPG products at local, regional, and national tradeshows and CSI/AIA events.
  • Travel within assigned geographic markets to develop basis of design specifications.
  • Follow up on all leads generated through marketing efforts.
  • Support pipeline management activities using Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Communicate actively with NIPG brands' sales teams.
  • Collect and communicate market intelligence and trends.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a professional sales role with experience in architecture, engineering, or design.
  • Strong understanding of the sales and specification processes.
  • Experience in promoting products directly to architects, building owners, engineering firms, and design-build contractors.
  • Proven ability to drive opportunities through the sales pipeline from inception to close.
  • Knowledge of the construction process, practices, procedures, and documents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred knowledge of CSI master specification and CSI procedures.
  • A combination of technical and interpersonal skill sets.
