About the position

As a Business Development Manager at Turner Construction Company, you will lead the Business Development and Marketing activities for a specifically assigned market segment or region. This role is pivotal in providing vision for long-term marketplace viability and success. You will work closely with the General Manager and operational sales team to develop and implement objectives and strategies that align with the overall business development goals of the company. Your responsibilities will include researching and identifying qualified target areas, projects, and clients, as well as establishing and maintaining a strong external presence in the marketplace. In this position, you will be responsible for generating new sales leads through various methods, including cold calling, market research, and participation in industry events. You will prepare and execute business development action plans tailored to specific targets and collaborate with Operations to assemble project teams for proposals. Additionally, you will supervise the development of proposals, presentations, and marketing materials, providing training and assistance to project teams to ensure effective presentations. Your role will also involve meeting client needs throughout the project lifecycle, from contract execution to project completion. You will act as a liaison, providing planning and advisory services to both prospective and current clients. Negotiating favorable contract terms and conditions in collaboration with the General Manager and legal advisors will be a key aspect of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will ensure strict adherence to all ethics and compliance requirements while managing a team of Business Development Engineers, including conducting employee evaluations and development plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement objectives and strategies in support of overall company business development goals in the assigned segment.
  • Lead efforts to research and determine qualified target areas, projects, and clients.
  • Establish and maintain an external presence in the marketplace.

  • Work with Operations to develop project teams for specific proposals.
  • Supervise the development of proposals, presentations, and brochure materials.
  • Train and assist project team in making effective presentations.
  • Meet Client's needs prior to contract execution and through project completion.
  • Provide advice and counsel; act as liaison, provide planning, etc. to prospective and current clients.
  • Work with General Manager and legal advisors to negotiate favorable contract terms and conditions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all ethics and compliance requirements.
  • Manage Business Development Engineers, including completion of employee evaluations and development plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of seven years of construction industry experience.
  • Good understanding of commercial construction, including a field perspective and/or work in a preconstruction capacity.
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and independent thinking in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced presentation and sales skills.
