About the position

The Business Development Manager - EMS & Automation at Vertiv Corporation is a pivotal role focused on driving sales across the AMERICAS. This position is responsible for providing technical sales support for Vertiv's E&I EMS & Automation products, collaborating with both Vertiv direct sellers and assigned LVO sales offices. The manager will work to enhance awareness and utilization of Vertiv E&I products among key consulting engineers, contractors, and general contractors who influence and support major clients. In this role, the Business Development Manager will develop and maintain strong relationships within the customer base to gain critical insights on strategic projects. The primary goal is to drive sales growth in EMS & Automation products, particularly targeting key engineering firms, global strategic accounts, and other significant project opportunities. The manager will represent Vertiv actively, cultivating high-level relationships with key stakeholders to identify and capitalize on critical opportunities. The responsibilities include providing leadership for large project sales, which encompasses specification reviews, competitive analysis, pricing strategies, and the development and implementation of comprehensive sales strategies. Additionally, the manager will offer technical support for key client engagements, assisting in the development of concept power architectures, providing guidance on product selection, and conducting design reviews. The role also involves account management in collaboration with dedicated account managers for select key accounts, creating industry awareness through participation in events, and educating sales teams on application-focused system architectures. The Business Development Manager will also engage with Vertiv and E&I Sales Managers to ensure proposals align with customer needs, participate in customer factory visits, and provide valuable feedback to product managers regarding product improvements and market dynamics. This position requires a proactive approach to account planning and engagement strategies for key clients, as well as the ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations to establish Vertiv's thought leadership in the industry. Maintaining a database to track Vertiv's influence in key engineering and general contractor accounts is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Vertiv actively and cultivate high level relationships with key engineering firms, contractors, and GCs to gain insight on critical opportunities.
  • Provide large project sales leadership to maximize Vertiv win rate including specification CDE review, competitive situation analysis, winning price point analysis, and developing/implementing overall sales strategy.
  • Provide technical support for key client engagements including assistance with development of concept power architectures, technical guidance for selection of best fit product ratings, battery selection and sizing, and creation of concept single lines and design reviews.
  • Provide EMS & Automation business account management in partnership with dedicated account managers for select key accounts.
  • Create general industry awareness through attendance and presenting at industry events.
  • Educate selling entities on application focused system architectures.
  • Work with Vertiv and E&I Sales Managers to provide sales insight and ensure proposals align with customer needs.
  • Participate in key customer factory visits when appropriate.
  • Provide industry feedback to product managers for product improvements and roadmaps.
  • Provide guidance and insight to product management and executive teams on shifting market dynamics and customer needs.
  • Participate in account planning efforts and engagement strategies for key clients.
  • Prepare and give technical presentations for industry events to establish Vertiv thought leadership.
  • Maintain database to track Vertiv influence in key engineering and GC accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, business or related degree desired.
  • Technical knowledge of EMS/Automation/Switchgear products and applications.
  • Deep market dynamics and industry knowledge.
  • Experience working on large, complex RFQs.
  • Experience working with Sales Offices.
  • Excellent Sales credibility and self-confidence to deal with frequent, stressful customer relationship issues.
  • Sales Presentation skills - in person and virtual.
  • Large Group Presentation skills - in person and virtual.
  • At least five years of industry sales experience.
