About the position

Joby Aviation is seeking a Business Development Manager for its engineering services division, Avionyx, which specializes in safety and mission-critical software for the aerospace industry. This role is pivotal in driving the growth of Avionyx, particularly in the context of its recent acquisition by Joby. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for generating, managing, and overseeing business development and sales activities, primarily focused on the offshore provision of engineering services. This position is based in San Jose, Costa Rica, and will involve regular interactions with customers and stakeholders to identify opportunities and strengthen business relationships. The successful candidate will participate in industry trade shows and will be required to travel internationally, particularly to and from the United States. The role requires a deep understanding of customer needs, both expressed and unexpressed, and the ability to lead the development of commercial and technical proposals. The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Avionyx management team on strategic initiatives to ensure that the company can meet customer requirements effectively. This includes negotiating service agreements, identifying project risks, and collaborating with the engineering team to prepare technical and economic proposals. Monitoring project performance and customer satisfaction will also be key responsibilities, ensuring that the company maintains high standards of service delivery and client engagement. Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and understanding customer expressed and unstated requirements
  • Leading the development of commercial and technical proposals
  • Working with the Avionyx management team on strategic initiatives to ensure Avionyx has the ability to meet customer requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 5 years of business development experience in engineering services market
  • Knowledge of software engineering and embedded systems
  • Familiarity with standards-driven compliance (e.g., RTCA, SAE, ASTM standards)
  • Familiarity with the aerospace market
  • Ability to manage budgets and schedules
  • Ability to travel internationally to and from the United States

Nice-to-haves

  • Direct experience with DO-178C, DO-254, ISO 26262, or similar safety-critical software standards
