About the position

The Business Development Manager for Microbiology is a managerial sales position responsible for establishing and executing sales strategies to drive revenue growth in the life sciences sector, particularly focusing on the pharma, biopharma, and compounding pharmacy industries. This role involves building and managing a pipeline of sales prospects, maintaining distributor relationships, and collaborating with marketing and development teams to enhance market adoption and customer engagement. The incumbent will also contribute to USP's mission of improving global health through public standards and related programs.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve or exceed direct and distributor sales targets set by management.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of qualified leads in pharma, biopharma industries and compounding pharmacies segments through outbound prospecting.
  • Lead conversion of qualified leads into orders and revenues for USP.
  • Develop, execute and maintain target customer account plans to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Maintain and strengthen business relationships with Key Accounts for long-term revenue growth.
  • Manage, develop, train and support commercial distributors and partners network.
  • Participate at conferences and events to network with customers and regulators, generate business leads, and present on USP Biosafety Testing Solutions.
  • Ensure customer technical support, execute trainings and product demonstrations as needed.
  • Work closely with the Marketing team to support execution of strategies aimed at accelerating product adoption and revenue growth.
  • Provide recommendations on improving marketing strategies and support the creation of marketing materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in Sales, Account Management, or Business Development roles in the life science industry in North America.
  • A track record of successful sales experience and driving revenue growth in the life science industry.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a high-paced growth environment.
  • Strong teamwork and excellent relationship-building skills with customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency using CRM software (Salesforce preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biology.
  • Combined education in Pharma/Lifesciences and Business, MBA is a plus.
  • 3+ years of sales experience in pharma/biopharma QA/QC, Biosafety Testing field is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a customer-centric approach.
  • Experience with regulatory, quality assurance or GMP background is a plus.
