About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for developing new customer business within an assigned sales territory. This role focuses on educating prospects about Ryder's services and developing their value perception through the Ryder Sales Process. The BDM will create sales plans, analyze profitability, and understand competitive influences to drive sales success. This position is a hunter role, requiring a proactive approach to generating new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads provided.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services.
  • Collaborate with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Complete new customer orientation processes.
  • Develop Direct Customer Contact (DCC) opportunities with Delivery Service Drivers (DSDs).
  • Identify prospect needs through quality assessments and prepare value-based proposals.
  • Continuously develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness.
  • Familiarize General Managers (GMs) and CDMs with ongoing sales and their potential impacts.
  • Contribute to effective account transitions and perform necessary administrative functions.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.
  • Create supportive relationships with Customer Business Units (CBUs).
  • Leverage resources to expand new opportunities, including Marketing, Distribution, Safety, and Finance.
  • Develop account profile information for all prospect solicitations.
  • Engage in training and improvement of sales skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated consecutive sales excellence in prior sales roles required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to interpret financial data.
