About the position

As a Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ryder, you will play a crucial role in driving new customer business within your assigned sales territory. This position is designed for a motivated individual who thrives in a hunter role, eager to develop and educate prospects on the value of Ryder's services. You will utilize the Ryder Sales Process to create effective sales plans, analyze the profitability of potential clients, and navigate the competitive landscape to secure new accounts. Your efforts will directly contribute to Ryder's mission of enabling commerce to flow reliably and efficiently, particularly in the food and beverage supply chain and retail logistics sectors. In this role, you will be responsible for developing a pre-sales strategy tailored to target accounts, ensuring a robust sales activity pipeline that meets and exceeds revenue quotas. You will proactively respond to leads, represent the full spectrum of Ryder's services, and collaborate with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts and enhance sales opportunities. Your ability to identify client needs through thorough assessments and prepare value-based proposals will be key to your success. Additionally, you will maintain strong relationships with General Managers (GMs) and CDMs, keeping them informed about ongoing sales efforts and their potential impacts. Reporting sales activities to management and adhering to sales protocols will be essential components of your responsibilities. You will also engage in continuous training to enhance your sales skills and industry knowledge, ensuring you remain at the forefront of the business development landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads provided by the company.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services to potential customers.
  • Collaborate with ARs and CDMs to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Ensure completion of new customer orientation.
  • Develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness.
  • Familiarize GMs and CDMs with ongoing sales and their potential impacts.
  • Contribute to effective transitions of sold accounts.
  • Perform necessary administrative functions to support accounts.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.
  • Create supportive working relationships with internal teams to expand opportunities.
  • Develop account profile information for all prospect solicitations.
  • Engage in training and improvement of sales skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated consecutive sales excellence in prior sales roles required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to represent them effectively.
  • Ability to interpret financial data.
