About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ryder is responsible for developing new customer business within an assigned sales territory. This role focuses on educating prospects about Ryder's services and creating value perceptions through strategic sales planning and analysis. The BDM is expected to be a proactive hunter, driving sales and building relationships to meet and exceed revenue quotas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services.
  • Collaborate with ARs and CDMs to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Ensure completion of new customer orientation.
  • Develop DCC opportunities with DSDs.
  • Identify prospect needs through quality assessments and value-based proposals.
  • Develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness.
  • Familiarize GMs & CDMs with ongoing sales and their potential impacts.
  • Contribute to effective account transitions.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.
  • Create supportive relationships with CBUs and leverage resources to expand opportunities.
  • Develop account profile information on all prospect solicitations.
  • Engage in training and improvement of sales skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated sales excellence in prior roles required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to interpret financial data.
