About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ryder is responsible for developing new customer business within assigned sales territories. This role focuses on educating prospects about Ryder's services and creating value perceptions through strategic sales planning and analysis. The BDM is expected to be a proactive hunter, driving sales growth and managing customer relationships effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads provided.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services.
  • Collaborate with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Complete new customer orientation processes.
  • Identify prospect needs and prepare value-based proposals.
  • Develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent field required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated sales excellence with a track record of quota achievement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to interpret financial data.

  • Experience in the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Familiarity with sales protocols and compliance activities.
