About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ryder is responsible for developing new customer business within an assigned sales territory. This role focuses on educating prospects about Ryder's services and creating value perceptions through strategic sales planning and analysis. The BDM is expected to be a proactive hunter with a strong background in contractual sales, driving revenue growth and expanding the customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads provided.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services.
  • Collaborate with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Complete new customer orientation processes.
  • Identify prospect needs through quality assessments and prepare value-based proposals.
  • Develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness continuously.
  • Familiarize General Managers (GMs) and CDMs with ongoing sales and their potential impacts.
  • Contribute to effective account transitions and perform necessary administrative functions.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.
  • Create supportive relationships with Customer Business Units (CBUs) and leverage resources to expand opportunities.
  • Develop account profile information for all prospect solicitations.
  • Engage in training and improvement of sales skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated consecutive sales excellence in prior sales roles required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to interpret financial data.
