About the position

As a Business Development Manager (BDM) at Ryder, you will play a crucial role in driving new customer business within your assigned sales territory, specifically in the South Chicagoland area. This position is designed for a motivated individual who thrives in a hunter role, focusing on developing and educating prospects about the value of Ryder's services. You will utilize the Ryder Sales Process to create effective sales plans, analyze the profitability of potential clients, and navigate the competitive landscape to mitigate risks associated with each account. Your primary goal will be to enhance the prospects' perception of Ryder's offerings, ensuring they understand the full spectrum of services available to them. In this role, you will be responsible for developing a robust sales activity pipeline that meets and exceeds revenue quotas. This involves responding proactively to leads, collaborating with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts, and working closely with National Sales to generate new opportunities. You will also conduct thorough needs assessments to identify client requirements and prepare value-based proposals that resonate with potential customers. Your ability to maintain supportive relationships with various stakeholders, including General Managers (GMs) and CDMs, will be essential in facilitating a smooth transition of accounts sold. Additionally, you will be expected to report on sales activities, adhere to sales protocols, and leverage resources across the organization to expand new opportunities. Continuous training and improvement of your sales skills, industry knowledge, and personal growth will be integral to your success in this position. The role requires a high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
  • Create a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
  • Respond proactively to leads provided.
  • Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services to potential customers.
  • Collaborate with ARs and CDMs to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
  • Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
  • Ensure completion of new customer orientation.
  • Develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness continuously.
  • Familiarize GMs & CDMs with ongoing sales and their potential impacts.
  • Contribute to the effective transition of sold accounts.
  • Perform necessary administrative functions to support accounts.
  • Report sales activity to management and ensure compliance with sales protocols.
  • Create supportive working relationships with CBUs and leverage resources to expand opportunities.
  • Develop account profile information for all prospect solicitations.
  • Engage in training and improvement of sales skills and industry knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience required.
  • Five or more years of demonstrated consecutive sales excellence in prior sales roles required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all organizational levels.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up practices.
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to represent them effectively.
