About the position

As a Business Development Manager for Process Gas Analyzers and Quantum Cascade Laser Analyzers at Emerson, you will play a pivotal role in leading the sales efforts for these innovative product lines. This position is field-based, allowing you to work closely with a dynamic team of sales and engineering professionals. Your primary responsibility will be to drive sales growth within your assigned territory, which may include locations in Houston, TX or near major airports across the United States. You will be expected to spend over 40% of your time traveling, engaging directly with customers and sales personnel to foster relationships and close deals. In this role, you will provide area product sales leadership by assisting in training direct sales channels to ensure they possess high levels of product and application expertise. You will communicate and facilitate the implementation of business unit sales strategies across all sales areas, participate in project pursuit and account penetration planning, and provide direction on target accounts based on business unit segmentation strategies. Additionally, you will support local trade show participation and maintain a comprehensive understanding of competitors, their strategies, and products. Your responsibilities will also include product line planning, where you will share insights on product competitiveness, suggest new products or enhancements, and coordinate new product field testing and introductions. You will provide input on major competitor strategies, identify regional market opportunities, and communicate business unit strategies effectively. Monitoring pricing, discounting, and customer satisfaction levels will be crucial, as will ensuring adherence to divisional quality plans. You will develop measures to provide information on company performance and make specific recommendations for improvement. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in sales and marketing within the process analytical industry, with a focus on customer needs and satisfaction. You will be expected to dig into challenges, collaborate with larger teams, and maintain a customer-centric approach in all dealings. Your ability to communicate effectively and instill trust will be essential in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing training to direct sales channels to ensure high levels of product/application expertise.

  • Maintain and communicate knowledge of competitors, strategies, and products.
  • Spend at least 40%+ of time traveling with salespersons and face-to-face with customers.
  • Provide pricing authority for major projects.
  • Share product competitiveness, suggesting new products and/or enhancements to existing products.
  • Coordinate new product field testing and introductions.
  • Provide input on major competitor strategies and identify regional market opportunities.
  • Monitor pricing and discounting, and customer satisfaction levels, providing recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technical field
  • Six (6) years of industry experience; three (3) in sales or marketing
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in selling, using, or servicing Gas Chromatographs or process analytical instruments
  • Knowledge of process analytical sample systems
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Able to enter and do walk-throughs of industrial work sites
