About the position

Lonza is currently seeking a Business Development Manager to support our South Central, US location. This remote position is pivotal in identifying business opportunities to enhance Lonza's share in the oral dosage marketplace, which includes capsules, ingredients, and Licaps manufacturing. The Business Development Manager will work closely with divisional and regional business leaders to target strategic business opportunities and define effective plans to secure growth for Lonza. The role involves developing new business opportunities with consumer health care brands and manufacturers, as well as other non-traditional companies, to drive the use of our entire portfolio of products and services. The Business Development Manager will coordinate assigned cross-functional projects between Sales, Innovation, R&D, Marketing, and Operations with the objective of growing the business. This position is responsible for establishing market evaluation positioning and introducing new products, services, and technologies in the region. A key objective of this role is to create a consistent pipeline of new business development opportunities that simultaneously create value for customers, consumers, and Lonza. Strong business development skills will enable the manager to work with customers to ensure the successful development of new products and growth initiatives in the capsules, ingredients, and dosage forms solutions market segments of Consumer Health & Ingredients (CHI). This position is expected to have high visibility in the health and nutrition industry, with active participation in regional and national trade associations. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will lead industry webinars, innovation summits, and other meetings on behalf of Lonza. The role requires generating new business and expanding the customer base through direct customer visits and flawless project management, as well as promoting current and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate will be exceptional at thinking creatively and have a passion for innovation, identifying market trends, assessing market potential, and developing strategies to grow Lonza's market share in the Consumer Health and Nutrition sector.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for generating new business and expansion of the customer base through direct customer visits and flawless project management.
  • Generate and close new business opportunities by promoting current technologies and emerging technologies as they become available.
  • Exceptional at thinking creatively and have a passion for innovation.
  • Identify market trends, assess market potential, and develop strategies to grow Lonza's market share in the Consumer Health and Nutrition.
  • Make presentations and implement development projects at Consumer Health and Nutrition customers, setting in place the required project plans and executing the plan to close new business.
  • Provide timely customer support and define and interface with internal resources when necessary.
  • Work with Lonza marketing, sales, customer service, and product development to develop strategies that ensure Lonza's position as a multi-products solution provider for customers' existing products and new product introductions.
  • Ability to sell and manage relationships at all levels, including President, VP, Director, and CEO.
  • Actively participate in industry events and trade associations, and lead webinars and innovation meetings.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in Strategic Business Planning, including Sales, Product Development, Marketing, and Business Development experience.
  • Direct health and nutrition industry experience highly preferred.
  • Project management experience in developing and implementing the introduction of new lines of products or new technologies to the marketplace, managing the project to conclusion with a results-oriented focus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (50+%) and at any time.
  • Knowledge of product life cycles is required.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills are essential.
  • Action and execution-oriented, with the ability to work independently and possess a high degree of interpersonal savvy, organizational agility, and managerial courage.
  • Experience in identifying market trends and establishing action plans that capitalize on those trends.
