The Business Development Manager is a pivotal role within the organization, primarily focused on driving revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities. The Business Development Manager is expected to develop business both vertically and horizontally, leveraging the company's unique capabilities and vertical integration to maximize opportunities. This role requires a proactive approach to sales, with a strong emphasis on building relationships and understanding customer needs to provide tailored solutions. In this role, the Business Development Manager will create strategic and tactical plans to uncover and close new business opportunities. They will utilize their existing network and develop new contacts to drive significant revenue growth. A deep understanding of the industry, including vocabulary, package design, and materials, is essential to become a knowledgeable resource and trusted partner for clients. The manager will listen to customer needs and provide recommendations that leverage the company's capabilities to solve problems and add value. The position involves creating and delivering compelling presentations to address core business issues and solutions for existing and potential clients. The Business Development Manager will serve as a key point of contact with customers, developing and maintaining strong relationships and infiltrating decision-making circles at the highest levels. They will also review the competitive environment and develop strategies to maximize revenue and profit generation. Daily management of sales activities through a CRM system is required, along with reporting on market, competitor, and customer activities. The role includes travel to meet with prospects and customers, participate in product demonstrations, and attend trade shows, all aimed at fostering relationships and building trust.

Responsibilities

  • Drives new and significant revenue growth by creating strategic and tactical plans to uncover and close new business opportunities
  • Sells through a network of own contacts and develops new contacts
  • Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge of vocabulary, package design, and materials
  • Understands strategic solutions and market differentiators for the business
  • Listens to customer needs to provide recommendations that leverage total vertical integration
  • Creates and delivers compelling, customized presentations for new business and existing clients
  • Serves as a key point of contact with customers and develops strong relationships
  • Penetrates marketing, brand owners, and packaging engineering teams to become a go-to solutions provider
  • Reviews the competitive environment and develops strategies to maximize revenue and profit generation
  • Manages and records all sales calls, opportunities, and activities within the CRM system
  • Reports market, competitor, and customer activities
  • Travels to new prospects, participates in product demonstrations, and meets with customers
  • Generates trip/visit reports after each key visit to summarize key points
  • Stays current on industry trends affecting existing and prospected clients
  • Collaborates with internal teams to coordinate new packaging ideas and present solutions
  • Cultivates and manages a healthy pipeline to meet aggressive sales quotas
  • Attends trade shows and generates various reports in a timely manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred or equivalent relevant work experience
  • At least 3 years of sales responsibility with a proven record of success in developing new business
  • Forecasting ability and tactical implementation to achieve planned outcomes
  • Experience closing deals with executive decision makers
  • Proven negotiation skills to drive profitability and client retention
  • Conceptual and analytical aptitude for meeting business goals
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Ability to understand technical business and manufacturing processes
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with sales tracking systems such as Salesforce and File Maker
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
