About the position

The Business Development Manager at GEODIS USA, LLC is a pivotal role responsible for driving new business opportunities and maintaining existing accounts. This position requires a proactive approach to prospecting and closing new business, as well as supporting account maintenance to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The Business Development Manager will develop a comprehensive contact list targeting new business growth opportunities within assigned markets or territories. Daily activities will include telemarketing, cold calling, and written communications aimed at soliciting new business opportunities. In addition to prospecting, the role involves designing contracts that encompass the scope of work, operational plans, and pricing for new business. The Business Development Manager will serve as a key resource for customers, addressing their needs related to transportation, rates for additional services, and contract interpretation. Regular communication with assigned customers is essential, including participation in performance review meetings and updates on process improvements or new business initiatives. The role may also involve addressing customer issues, concerns, and requests, as well as undertaking special projects as assigned. The Business Development Manager will collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, and other departments to achieve profitability goals and ensure the successful delivery of services. This position is integral to the success of GEODIS, contributing to the company's reputation as a global supply chain leader and fostering a culture of transparency, inclusion, trust, and respect among its employees, known as GEODIANS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a contact list for new business growth opportunities in assigned market or territory
  • Complete daily telemarketing, cold calling, and written communications to solicit new business opportunities
  • Design contracts including scope of work development, assumption justification, operational plan development, and pricing for new business
  • Serve as a resource to solve customer needs including transportation, rates for additional services, and contract interpretation
  • Communicate regularly with assigned customers including attendance at performance review meetings, process improvement or correction updates, and new business initiatives
  • Address all customer issues, concerns, and requests
  • Assist in and assure completion of account reviews
  • Deliver results to the Operations Manager for approval and complete negotiation with the customer
  • Work directly with Operations, Engineering, and other groups necessary to achieve profitability goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Minimum 3 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year managing direct reports
  • Experience with transportation management systems
  • Experience with optimization tools preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
