About the position

The Business Development Manager at J.T. Thorpe & Son, Inc. is responsible for driving strategic sales and business development efforts within the industrial construction market. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with key customers, managing sales budgets, and executing focused sales plans. The manager will work closely with the project team to ensure successful project delivery and will be expected to stay informed about industry trends and customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on specific customers in geographic locations and maintain a network of fabricators, general contractors, EPCs, owners, and vendors.
  • Manage annual Sales Budget and prioritize sales strategy through conference attendance and networking.
  • Travel to meet and maintain customer relationships, including attending conferences.
  • Create and deliver presentations to various audiences, including internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Organize, update, and maintain a focused sales plan and customer contact list.
  • Create and execute a personal schedule to optimize time and maintain contact with customers.
  • Provide weekly and monthly updates to the Project Team regarding customer interactions and project statuses.
  • Setup project management for success by providing accurate information about projects and customers.
  • Learn JTT's mission, strategies, and industry standards, applications, materials, and equipment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years' experience in sales or marketing in Industrial Construction markets.
  • Experience with estimating/proposal writing and presentation in the industrial marketplace for large projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, communications, or marketing is preferred.
  • Strong self-motivation and self-organization skills.
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with refractory, fireproofing, insulation, scaffolding, or painting is preferred but not required.
  • A 'driver' personality with a bias toward action and a commitment to excellence.
