About the position

Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) creates mitigation and conservation banks and provides environmental mitigation and habitat planning services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts. Our established industry leaders excel in the field of wetland and endangered species mitigation services, to create a nationwide habitat mitigation company. We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our team in our Westervelt Ecological Services office in Sacramento, CA. This individual will oversee pursuits of new business opportunities and expansion of market geography. Key efforts include engagement with brand development and marketing, networking, client development, credit sales, and creation of turnkey mitigation solutions. He/she will be versed in California environmental regulations and will work with clients to develop project specific mitigation solutions. External outreach will include, but is not limited to: private sector developers, infrastructure developers, federal, state and local agencies, regulators, and elected officials.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue business/brand development through industry events, client meetings, and speaking at technical conferences.
  • Track and nurture long-term, large scale project leads. Support client development and associated land acquisition.
  • Engage with political entities, lead agency staff, and regulatory agency staff to solve complex project development issues.
  • Lead negotiations of multi-million-dollar turnkey contracts and maintain client relations throughout duration of project implementation.
  • Foster high-level contacts at local and state agencies, as well as regulatory agencies, to support business development.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with non-profit organizations related to mitigation opportunities.
  • Track regional mitigation credit inventories and pricing to assess market competition and opportunities.
  • Pursue business opportunities through research of project develop leads in industry news, public notices, regulatory and CEQA databases, etc.
  • Support market expansion into new geographies based upon client leads and land opportunities.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences, or related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Private sector, commercial, or mitigation client sector industry work experience.
  • Strong experience with CEQA and NEPA mitigation planning or design.
  • Good knowledge of California's biological habitats, species, and general conservation biology/ecology.
  • Understanding of California state contracting process.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change.
  • Regulator and permitting experience.
  • Budget, schedule, and staff team management experience.
