Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight cities across the U.S., is seeking a full-time exempt Business Development Manager to join its Chicago office. The firm, which boasts over 400 attorneys and expertise in 50 areas of law, is recognized for delivering outstanding value and service to its clients. The Business Development Manager will operate under the leadership of the Director of Business Development and will be responsible for owning programs for identified constituents, developing them from conception through execution. This role requires strong leadership, influence, and management skills to effectively coordinate with a diverse team of stakeholders, including attorneys, administrative staff, and colleagues at all levels. After an initial training period, the position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule. The Business Development Manager will collaborate with practice groups, client teams, and individual attorneys on various marketing initiatives. This includes the creation and execution of business development plans, responding to requests for proposals, and organizing client presentations, seminars, and events, including post-event follow-up. The role also involves identifying and supporting brand-building opportunities, managing external marketing events and sponsorships, and acting as the primary point of contact for attorneys, event planners, design groups, and local office staff. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for proposal and pitch development, participating in team meetings, gathering input and data, drafting responses and materials, and ensuring timely and effective delivery of final products. Researching potential clients and maintaining proper knowledge management within the firm are also key responsibilities. The Business Development Manager will assist national teams in collecting attorney representative experience and compiling effective tools for business development. Other day-to-day marketing responsibilities include assisting attorneys with bio updates and maintaining local office brochure inventory.
