About the position

The Business Development Officer - SBA is responsible for performing business development activities within an assigned sales territory, supporting City National Bank's network of business units. This role involves analyzing the needs of prospects, providing information about bank products and services, and collaborating with colleagues to close deals and implement banking services. The officer will cultivate relationships with prospects, track sales activities, and ensure compliance with banking regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs prospect development activities in assigned territory.
  • Develops relationships with prospects to increase overall business.
  • Calls on prospective clients to identify their needs and appropriate products/services.
  • Cultivates referral sources through community involvement and civic activities.
  • Builds and develops prospects into clients, specifically in Government Lending products.
  • Achieves specific business development goals and maintains call reports.
  • Works with management to plan business development opportunities.
  • Collaborates with relationship managers and other colleagues for sales and implementation of services.
  • Trains colleagues on SBA and Government Guaranteed products.
  • Raises awareness of SBA/Government Guaranteed products throughout the Bank.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an SBA environment required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a direct sales environment required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Prefer Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Bank asset and liability products.
  • Thorough understanding of banking services.
  • General understanding of the commercial credit underwriting process.
  • Excellent analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated sales skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous underwriting experience is preferred.
