About the position

The Business Immigration Paralegal will manage a caseload of immigration matters, ensuring timely completion and adherence to deadlines. This role involves drafting and preparing support letters and forms for various immigration matters, including complex cases such as Request for Evidence (RFE) responses and nunc pro tunc submissions. The paralegal will assemble exhibits and filing components, incorporating supervisor feedback with a high level of attention to detail. Additionally, the position requires reviewing documents to identify major and routine issues, conducting legal research, and drafting correspondence for clients and agencies. The paralegal will also serve as a mentor to junior team members, providing guidance and feedback on case processes. In terms of case management, the paralegal will oversee case production operations, monitor timelines and deadlines, and keep attorneys informed of any relevant issues. They will assign cases, adjust workloads, and address questions raised by other paralegals. The role includes preparing case summaries, facilitating communication between clients and the team, and generating reports for case teams and clients. The paralegal will ensure compliance with firm protocols regarding file maintenance and record-keeping, while also tracking the status of immigration submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned caseload of immigration matters to ensure timely completion and adherence to deadlines.
  • Draft and prepare support letters and forms for immigration matters, including complex cases such as RFE responses and nunc pro tunc submissions.
  • Assemble and curate exhibits and other filing components for immigration matters.
  • Incorporate supervisor feedback into immigration filings with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Review documents and case materials to identify major and routine issues.
  • Conduct research on legal topics and relevant facts for cases.
  • Draft routine client and agency correspondence to be sent by supervisors.
  • Serve as a peer resource for junior team members, providing mentorship and feedback.
  • Organize legally-compliant client records and case materials for ease of review.
  • Maintain and update practice management systems and related databases accurately.
  • Oversee case production operations, including drafting client and legal correspondence documents.
  • Monitor case timelines and keep attorneys informed of relevant timing issues.
  • Assign cases and adjust workload allocation to meet deadlines.
  • Address questions or case issues raised by paralegals and provide guidance.
  • Function as a primary case reviewer for draft submissions, spotting and addressing major case issues.
  • Prepare case summaries and documents to support case preparation and assist attorney communication.
  • Facilitate communications between clients and the team, acting as the primary point-of-contact.
  • Establish good working relationships with clients for effective communication.
  • Generate reports for case teams and oversee report generation for clients.
  • Ensure compliance with firm protocol regarding file maintenance and record-keeping.
  • Track and monitor the status of immigration submissions.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of business immigration experience, preferably in a relevant field of specialization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in immigration law, including common case issues and adjudication practices.
  • Prior experience with direct management of subordinate employees preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to take on added responsibilities and learn new things.
  • Ability to show initiative and work as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to adapt quickly to firm-specific software.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree.
