About the position

The Business Intelligence Engineer III position within the IPC Simulation Analytics team at Amazon is a critical role that focuses on solving real-world problems through the analysis of large datasets. The IPC Sim team is responsible for one of the largest supply chain simulation systems globally, which predicts inventory flows for millions of items available on Amazon.com. The role involves utilizing advanced analytical techniques to enhance inventory planning, which includes determining optimal quantities, frequencies, and vendor assignments for inventory purchases, as well as selecting the best warehouses to meet customer demand. This optimization is essential for maximizing Amazon's long-term free cash flow. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will engage in designing simulations and experiments that help in understanding the dynamics of inventory management. You will work with algorithms that simulate inventory flows and operational metrics, enabling data-driven decision-making across Amazon's supply chain systems. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment that leverages statistics, machine learning, operations research, and econometrics to drive business insights and improvements. The role requires collaboration with various teams, including business, software, and research, to define new metrics and business cases. Responsibilities

  • Analyze large amounts of business data to solve real-world problems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional or military experience.
  • 5+ years of SQL experience.
  • Experience programming to extract, transform, and clean large (multi-TB) data sets.
  • Experience with the theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results.
  • Experience with AWS technologies.
  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g., Python) and advanced SQL skills.
  • Experience with information retrieval, data science, machine learning, and data mining.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs.
  • Experience managing, analyzing, and communicating results to senior leadership.
  • Master's degree in statistics, data science, or an equivalent quantitative field.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling.
