The Amazon Global Supply Chain Optimization organization is at the forefront of ensuring that products reach customers quickly and efficiently. Within this organization, the IPC Sim team plays a crucial role by managing one of the largest supply chain simulation systems globally. This system is designed to predict inventory flows for millions of items available on Amazon.com worldwide. The core of inventory planning involves sophisticated algorithms that determine the optimal quantities and frequencies for purchasing inventory from various vendors, as well as the best warehouses for fulfilling customer demand. The goal is to optimize long-term free cash flow for Amazon, making the supply chain as efficient as possible. The IPC Sim team is responsible for simulating the interactions of these algorithms, which allows for predictions of inventory flows and key operational and financial metrics across the network. This experimentation platform is essential for understanding labor needs, managing network capacity, and facilitating ongoing optimizations of the algorithms. By simulating trillions of inventory events daily, the team enables Amazon's supply chain systems to make informed, data-driven decisions. As a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) within the IPC Sim team, you will tackle real-world challenges by analyzing extensive business data, defining new metrics and business cases, designing simulations and experiments, and creating models. Collaboration with teammates across business, software, and research domains is key to success in this role. The ideal candidate will possess a robust analytical background and thrive in an environment that utilizes statistics, machine learning, operations research, econometrics, and business analysis.
