About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst (PSS2) at Rowan University will play a crucial role in collaborating with various functional areas across the University, particularly in Finance. This position involves eliciting requirements for the creation and development of new solutions, integrations, and reports, as well as making necessary changes to existing solutions and diagnosing issues. The analyst will develop a comprehensive understanding of Rowan University's applications, systems of records, and databases, which is essential for effective problem-solving and solution development. In this role, the Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for delivering precise functional specifications that encompass functional requirements, hierarchy, workflow, business rules, interface design, outstanding issues, data analysis, and data mapping. The analyst will gather comprehensive business requirements and use cases, recommending appropriate solutions based on the analysis. Evaluating business processes and establishing documentation for development will also be key responsibilities. The analyst will work closely with the Technical team to develop high-level labor estimates for deploying functionality and will conduct gap analyses between applications and customer requirements. Collaboration with Developers will be necessary to estimate project impacts and ensure that desired functionality changes are communicated, verified, and tested with Development, QA, and Production Support teams. Additionally, the Business Intelligence Analyst will provide general technical support for various administrative applications across the campus, including travel software, procure-to-pay software, and student advising software. They will guide clients through the System/Software Development Life Cycle and IT Acquisition Process, ensuring that all relevant business needs are addressed and advocating for long-term improvements aligned with Rowan's technology direction. The ability to manage multiple competing priorities through effective organization and communication is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain understanding of internal customer requirements, workflows and departmental business support needs.
  • Deliver precise functional specifications to include functional requirements, hierarchy, workflow, business rules, interface design and definitions, outstanding issues, data analysis, and data mapping to clients and development staff.
  • Gather comprehensive business requirements and use cases and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Evaluate business processes, gather requirements, help establish and document specifications for development.
  • Work with the Technical team to develop high level labor estimates to develop and deploy functionality.
  • Conduct gap analysis between application and stated customer requirements and collaborate with Developers to estimate project impact.
  • Work with Development, QA, and Production Support teams to communicate, verify, and test the desired functionality changes.
  • Provide general technical support for various administrative applications throughout campus, including travel software, procure-to-pay software, and student advising software.
  • Work with the clients to demonstrate the changes to the system to ensure all relevant business needs are addressed.
  • Act as an interface with IRT to communicate and advocate for longer term improvements, and ensure that technical solutions are aligned with Rowan's technology direction.
  • Manage multiple competing priorities through effective organization and communication.
  • Guide clients through the System/Software, Development, Life Cycle and IT Acquisition Process.
  • Process monitoring, analysis, and improvement (i.e. Appman processes).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a business or technology-related field or relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of business analysis principles, processes, and techniques.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience (SQL, Query, basic table joins, aggregate functions, data mapping, rollback, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and prepare use cases, functional specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to understand and represent the needs of the end user in a software development environment.
  • Strong consultative and advisory skills.
  • Strong technology, analytical, and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proficient in standard query tools such as SQL.
  • Knowledge of databases, database relationships, interfaces, and integration techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with reporting on Higher Education, Financial, HR, or Payroll data; or Medical systems.
  • Experience with API's.
