About the position

The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst at Geisinger plays a crucial role in supporting business and clinical areas by leveraging analytic expertise, including knowledge of data structures, programming, and statistics. This position is designed for individuals who can help the organization make informed, data-driven decisions. The Senior BI Analyst is responsible for collecting, cleaning, and interpreting data sets to address specific questions or problems, identifying improvement opportunities, and supporting the evaluation of existing processes and strategic initiatives. They are expected to act as analytics experts in discussions with stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to operate independently while effectively communicating complex analyses to non-technical audiences. In this role, the Senior BI Analyst will independently consult with stakeholders to gather project requirements and define the scope of various projects. They will collaborate with internal partners to design and develop reporting solutions and analytic studies that meet business needs. The analyst will also be responsible for planning projects, estimating time and effort based on gathered requirements, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. A strong understanding of relevant source systems and proficiency with databases and data marts is essential, as is staying current with industry trends and business intelligence software used at Geisinger. The Senior BI Analyst will recommend analysis approaches, develop and validate complex queries, and create detailed reports that answer business questions for internal customers. They will interpret results and provide actionable recommendations based on their findings. Presenting analyses and reports to stakeholders is a key responsibility, as is using statistical methods to visualize data accurately. The analyst will also report and troubleshoot data quality issues, participate in strategic departmental initiatives, and mentor junior analysts. Attention to detail and clear communication are vital for success in this role, as is a collaborative spirit that encourages knowledge sharing within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Independently consults with stakeholders to gather project requirements and define scope on projects of all sizes.
  • Collaborates with internal partners and organizations in the design and development of reporting solutions and analytic studies to support business needs.
  • Plans projects and requests completion tasks.
  • Provides time and effort estimates based on requirements gathering.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of relevant source systems needed to support primary stakeholders and proficiency with related databases/data marts within the first year in role.
  • Recommends analysis approach and additional analyses or reporting needed based on business questions, requirements, and initial analysis findings.
  • Develops, validates, and executes complex queries.
  • Develops complex reports and performs complex data analysis that answers business questions for internal customers.
  • Interprets results and makes recommendations to business areas based on findings.
  • Presents analysis and reports to internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Routinely uses statistical methods during analyses and considers how best to visualize data that accurately reflects the intended message including the limitations.
  • Reports and helps troubleshoot data quality issues when performing data profiling, testing, or validation.
  • Collaborative and eager to share knowledge with team members.
  • Responsible for participating in strategic departmental initiatives.
  • Acts as a mentor to other analysts.
  • May participate in industry advisory and/or user groups.
  • Shares important and relevant information with the team. Proactively offers suggestions, provides resources, volunteers for assignments, and removes barriers to help the team accomplish its goals.
  • Follows all department's policies and procedures including request intake/fulfillment, change management, and data governance practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.
