About the position

Steptoe LLP, a prominent Am Law 100 firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to join its International Trade and Regulatory Compliance practice group. This role is pivotal in supporting the firm's efforts to analyze and interpret complex political, economic, and market dynamics that impact international trade and regulatory compliance. The Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for conducting thorough research and drafting comprehensive analyses that assess reputational risks and provide insights into various geopolitical landscapes, particularly focusing on Europe and Latin America. In this position, the analyst will contribute to the firm's risk publication, ensuring that the content is well-researched and relevant to current events. The role also involves media monitoring, where the analyst will compile news summaries and analyses that inform the firm's strategies and client interactions. Attending policy discussions at think tanks and Congressional hearings will be a key part of the job, allowing the analyst to gather firsthand insights and contribute to due diligence investigations. Interaction with clients is essential, as the analyst will assess their needs and provide tailored support to enhance client relationships and service delivery. The Business Intelligence Analyst will be expected to perform other duties as assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the firm's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and draft political, economic, market and reputational risk analysis
  • Contribute analysis to the Steptoe risk publication
  • Conduct media monitoring and compile news and analysis summaries
  • Attend policy discussions at Washington-area think tanks and Congressional hearings
  • Contribute to due diligence investigations
  • Interact with clients to assess needs and provide support
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Masters degree in International Affairs, Political Science or a relevant field
  • Minimum one year experience analyzing policy or security issues pertaining to Europe or Latin America
  • Proficiency in one or more foreign languages desired
  • High degree of organization, initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast pace environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a team environment
