About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst position is a contract role based in Richmond, VA, primarily focused on data analysis and reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting complex data from various sources to create and manage interactive dashboards and reports. Utilizing BI technologies such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView, the analyst will visualize and display data effectively. Proper data management is crucial, which includes frequent validation and testing to ensure data accuracy and integrity. The role also involves creating and managing data models and warehouses, as well as establishing data governance and security protocols. In addition to technical skills, the analyst will work closely with stakeholders to transform business needs into actionable BI solutions, supporting strategic and operational decisions with data-driven insights. Collaboration across functions is essential, as the analyst will engage with Sales, Marketing, and Finance teams to understand their data requirements and provide tailored BI solutions. The role also allows for ad-hoc data requests and analysis, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement in BI processes and tools. Keeping abreast of industry trends and advancements in BI technology is expected, along with planning and executing BI projects effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis and reporting by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting complicated data from many sources.
  • Create and manage interactive dashboards and reports using BI technologies like Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView.
  • Ensure proper data management through frequent validation and testing to maintain data accuracy and integrity.
  • Create and manage data models and warehouses, establishing data governance and security protocols.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to gain actionable business insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to transform business needs into BI solutions.
  • Support strategic and operational choices with data-driven suggestions.
  • Work with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to understand their data requirements and offer customized BI solutions.
  • Handle ad-hoc data requests and analysis as needed.
  • Continuously improve BI procedures and tools, following industry trends and BI technology advancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a comparable subject.
  • 2+ years of BI or data analysis experience.
  • Proficient in BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView.
  • Strong SQL querying and manipulation abilities.
  • Experience in data modeling, ETL, and warehousing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex data insights in writing and speech.
  • Team player capable of collaborating across departments and managing multiple projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or appropriate certification (e.g., CBIP, CIMA).
  • Experience in advanced analytics, including predictive modeling and machine learning.
  • Ability to analyze data using Python or R.
  • Experience with CRM and ERP systems.
