About the position

The Business Intelligence Analyst position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) focuses on developing and supporting business intelligence, analytics, and machine learning tools to enhance business operations and scientific decision-making. The role involves working with Microsoft and SAP technologies to create corporate reports and dashboards, manage data accuracy, and collaborate with various stakeholders to understand their needs. The analyst will also analyze emerging trends and technologies to inform BI strategy and ensure adherence to quality assurance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support corporate reports and dashboards with PowerBI and other Microsoft reporting tools.
  • Work with data warehouse technologies beyond Microsoft and SAP.
  • Apply SQL and machine learning experience to relevant use cases.
  • Implement a master data management strategy to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with business and scientific customers to capture actionable requirements.
  • Analyze trends and technologies to provide recommendations for BI strategy.
  • Collaborate with other DOE labs and private sector companies to understand capabilities.
  • Follow software quality assurance standards and project management requirements.
  • Provide training for end users on Business Intelligence tools.

Requirements

  • A BS in computer science, data science, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics, or a related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of aligned experience, or 1 to 3 years for MS holders, or any amount for PhD holders.
  • Prior Microsoft Business Intelligence development experience including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
  • Strong emphasis on customer satisfaction and end-user needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relational client-facing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to innovate and creatively problem solve.
  • Experience creating BI solutions using MS Power BI, SQL, and MS Azure tool sets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL, Visual Studio, or Visual Studio Code tools and APIs for analytic tool creation.
  • Understanding of ETL frameworks and multidimensional/tabular modeling.
  • Experience using SQL Server Database engine, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.
  • Familiarity with Python and low code-no code data analytic tools.
  • Knowledge of current ORNL business processes and Microsoft SharePoint technologies.
