About the position

We are seeking a skilled Azure/BI Data Engineer to design, develop, and implement data solutions using Azure data services and Power BI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, with proficiency in Azure cloud technologies and Power BI and a proven ability to deliver robust, scalable data pipelines and solutions. This role involves working closely with various departments to understand their data needs and translating those into effective data solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data integrity, quality, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle, while also implementing security and privacy measures to comply with relevant requirements. In this position, you will design, architect, and implement data solutions in Azure and Power BI, including data lakes, Azure SQL databases, data warehouses, data pipelines, and reporting models. You will develop ETL/ELT processes to move data between systems and integrate new data sources into the data ecosystem. Optimizing data storage and retrieval for performance and cost efficiency will be a key focus, as will monitoring and troubleshooting data solutions to resolve issues in a timely manner. Additionally, you will support traditional BI solutions including SSIS and SSAS (Data Cubes) and participate in the migration to Azure data services. Experience with third-party data transfer/transformation tools such as Informatica will also be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, and implement data solutions in Azure and Power BI, including data lakes, Azure SQL databases, data warehouses, data pipelines, and reporting models.
  • Develop ETL/ELT processes to move data between systems and integrate new data sources into the data ecosystem.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with functional Department Analysts to understand data requirements and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data solutions, resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Implement data security and privacy measures to comply with requirements.
  • Support traditional BI Solutions including SSIS and SSAS (Data Cubes); participate in migration to Azure data services.
  • Support 3rd party data transfer/transformation tools including Informatica.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, including 3-5 years of experience in Azure data services.
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, with a focus on designing and implementing data solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, etc.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git version control and branching.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and database design.
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT development, and data warehousing principles.
  • Demonstrated experience using Power BI to build and deploy enterprise reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Azure and Power BI certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate or similar.
  • Experience with other cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus.
