About the position

The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is a pivotal role within Cook Children's Health Care System, located in the Medical Office Building in Fort Worth. This position requires a seasoned data professional who is adept at designing, developing, and implementing analytics tools and data solutions tailored to meet the complex needs of the organization. The Senior BI Developer will engage with clinical, financial, and operational business leaders, as well as subject matter experts and Information Services applications teams, to create reports, dashboards, and analytics that accurately reflect business workflows and drive actionable insights. In this role, the Senior BI Developer will be responsible for planning, designing, architecting, developing, testing, and implementing new BI solutions. Additionally, they will troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain existing BI solutions to ensure optimal performance. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in writing relational and multidimensional database queries that align with performance objectives and business use cases. A strong background in data warehousing design and development methodologies is essential, along with experience in leading healthcare technology systems such as EMR (Epic), Claims processing (Epic), ERP (Workday), and cloud-based data platforms like Azure and Snowflake. As a leader and mentor to less experienced BI Developers, the Senior BI Developer will contribute significantly to complex projects and may take on informal project management responsibilities as needed. They will identify opportunities for process improvement and document recommendations, processes, and best practices in a clear and concise manner. This role requires a high level of analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication abilities to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement analytics tools and data solutions.
  • Gather requirements and analyze data to develop robust analytics solutions.
  • Interface with clinical, financial, and operational business leaders to design reports and dashboards.
  • Plan, design, architect, develop, test, and implement new BI solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain existing BI solutions.
  • Write relational and multidimensional database queries that meet performance objectives.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced BI Developers.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and document best practices.
  • Create and deploy highly visible reports, dashboards, and analytics for business use.
  • Support by pager or telephone 24/7.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business or related/relevant degree AND minimum of 4 years of experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Data Engineer, Database Developer, and/or Technical/Systems/Application Analyst.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in relevant roles if no degree is held.
  • Expertise with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft BI stack, SAP Business Objects, TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, and Crystal Reports.
  • Expertise programming in SQL, Python, R, SAS or equivalent programming languages.
  • Strong experience in data warehousing design and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience operating efficiently within the Business Intelligence development lifecycle.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements gathering, analysis, and verification.
  • Strong experience in planning, designing, architecting, developing and supporting BI solutions.
  • Strong experience debugging, monitoring, and troubleshooting BI solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare, provider and/or managed care/insurance environment preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in information technology preferred.
  • Holds current Epic certifications: Epic Cogito, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, and at least one of the following - Clinical/Patient Access/Revenue Cycle Data Model.
  • Experience utilizing, developing and supporting Epic Cogito tools, including Radar Dashboards, Reporting Workbench Reports, Radar SQL Metrics, Crystal Reports, SlicerDicer, Analytics Catalog, registries, etc.
