About the position

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for building and maintaining business intelligence reports and dashboards that support the organization in creating and maintaining meaningful reports and analyses aligned with key business metrics. This role involves close collaboration with key business stakeholders to devise innovative methods for measuring and predicting future business performance, as well as uncovering insights that can inform management decisions. The position may also provide supervision to Business Intelligence Developer I & II, ensuring that the team operates effectively and efficiently. In this role, the Senior Business Intelligence Developer will plan and coordinate projects with various areas of responsibility, working with external entities to translate business requirements into actionable stories, tasks, and subtasks. The developer will resolve problems and provide technical evaluations and recommendations, attending status, design, and implementation meetings with IT staff and other department personnel. Responsibilities include designing, developing, publishing, and scheduling reports and dashboards to meet business requirements, as well as conducting unit testing of various components of BI projects while adhering to architectural requirements for maintainability and scalability. The developer will design, code, test, document, and implement visualizations, reports, and dashboards, ensuring compliance with defined business requirements and best practices in the software development life cycle (SDLC). Additionally, the role involves applying system updates and patches, maintaining program customization details, and facilitating processes to ensure data continuity. The Senior Business Intelligence Developer will lead, direct, and support the work of the Business Intelligence (BI) team, working closely with end-users and other technical employees to resolve any errors and maintenance issues. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain business intelligence reports and dashboards.
  • Support the business in creating and maintaining meaningful reports and analysis aligned with key business metrics.
  • Work closely with key business stakeholders to devise new ways to measure and predict future business performance.
  • Uncover insights that could help inform management decisions.
  • Plan and coordinate projects with other areas of responsibility.
  • Translate business requirements into stories, tasks, and subtasks in an Agile manner.
  • Resolve problems and provide technical evaluation and recommendations.
  • Attend status, design, and implementation meetings with IT staff and other department staff and stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, publish, and schedule reports and dashboards to meet business requirements.
  • Conduct unit testing of various components of BI projects, adhering to architectural requirements of maintainability and scalability.
  • Design, code, test, document, and implement visualizations, reports, and dashboards following standard SDLC and best practices.
  • Apply system updates and patches; maintain program customization details; facilitate processes to ensure data continuity.
  • Lead, direct, and support the work of the Business Intelligence (BI) team.
  • Work with end-users and other technical employees to resolve any errors and maintenance issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • Five years of related work experience using MS Power BI Stack or other BI tools, developing complex technical data visualizations, dashboards, or reports.
  • Strong experience utilizing tools and systems on the MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, T-SQL, Power Pivot, Power BI, Power Query, MDX, and DAX.
  • Understanding of database fundamentals, including relational and multidimensional database design, OLTP, and OLAP.
  • Ability to quickly stage and shape data from data warehouses into reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Proficiency with SSAS Tabular models and developing Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Proficiency with writing T-SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Big Data Technologies: Azure Data Lake/Azure Data warehousing.
