About the position

The Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is an experienced data professional responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytics tools and data solutions within the healthcare sector. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of business data needs, where the developer gathers requirements, analyzes data, and creates robust analytics solutions tailored for advanced projects, self-service analytics, and business user consumption. The Senior BI Developer will interface with clinical, financial, and operational business leaders, as well as subject matter experts and Information Services applications teams, to design reports, dashboards, and analytics that accurately reflect business workflows and drive actionable insights. In this position, the Senior BI Developer will plan, design, architect, develop, test, and implement new BI solutions while also troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining existing BI solutions. The role demands expertise in writing relational and multidimensional database queries that meet performance objectives and business use cases, alongside a strong background in data warehousing design and development methodologies. The developer will also be seen as a leader and mentor to less experienced BI Developers, contributing significantly to complex projects and potentially acting as an informal project manager when necessary. Identifying process improvement opportunities and documenting best practices in a clear and concise manner is also a key responsibility. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience with leading healthcare technology systems such as EMR (Epic), Claims processing (Epic), ERP (Workday), CRM, and cloud-based data platforms (Azure, Snowflake). This role requires a high school diploma or GED, with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business, or a related field preferred, along with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Candidates with at least 6 years of experience in similar roles will also be considered. The position requires a commitment to support by pager or telephone 24/7, reflecting the critical nature of the BI solutions developed and maintained by the Senior BI Developer.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement analytics tools and data solutions.
  • Gather requirements and analyze data to create robust analytics solutions.
  • Interface with clinical, financial, and operational business leaders to design reports and dashboards.
  • Plan, design, architect, develop, test, and implement new BI solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain existing BI solutions.
  • Write relational and multidimensional database queries that meet performance objectives.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced BI Developers.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and document best practices.
  • Create and deploy highly visible reports, dashboards, and analytics for business use.
  • Manage small scale data and technology projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business or related/relevant degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Data Engineer, Database Developer, and/or Technical/Systems/Application Analyst.
  • Expertise with business intelligence tools such as Microsoft BI stack, SAP Business Objects, TIBCO Spotfire, Tableau, Crystal Reports.
  • Expertise programming in SQL, Python, R, SAS or equivalent programming languages.
  • Strong experience in data warehousing design and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience operating efficiently within the Business Intelligence development lifecycle.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements gathering, analysis, and verification.
  • Strong experience in planning, designing, architecting, developing and supporting BI solutions.
  • Strong experience debugging, monitoring, and troubleshooting BI solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare, provider and/or managed care/insurance environment.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in information technology.
  • Holds current Epic certifications: Epic Cogito, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, and at least one of the following - Clinical/Patient Access/Revenue Cycle Data Model.
  • Experience utilizing, developing and supporting Epic Cogito tools, including Radar Dashboards, Reporting Workbench Reports, Radar SQL Metrics, Crystal Reports, SlicerDicer, Analytics Catalog, registries.
