About the position

The Business Intelligence Developer plays a crucial role in supporting the City of Victorville by generating, organizing, and maintaining business interfaces and reports. This position focuses on data analytics technology to provide valuable insights to decision-makers, develop and maintain BI tools, and present information through reports and visualizations. The developer will collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver reports and dashboards that meet business goals, while also ensuring data accuracy and implementing process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in collaborative design sessions with stakeholders to design, build, and deliver reports, dashboards, and applications.
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of data presented in BI reports before publishing.
  • Redefine, document, verify, and make changes to ERP application configurations and BI reports as necessary.
  • Create BI dashboards and interactive reports using best visualization techniques.
  • Identify and implement internal process improvements related to automation and data delivery.
  • Support automation initiatives and build relationships with business users to understand their processes.
  • Create dashboards and interactive visual reports using Power BI.
  • Run DAX queries and functions using Power BI.
  • Create charts and data documentation explaining algorithms and models.
  • Construct a data warehouse and maintain large SSIS packages, stored procedures, and views.
  • Evaluate and recommend new automated technologies and business process improvements.
  • Configure, maintain, and develop relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL.
  • Translate business questions into specific data and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and update technical documentation and audit data for accuracy.
  • Utilize SQL scripting and reporting software to create ad-hoc queries and reports.
  • Contribute to Agile and Project Management methodologies from planning to execution.
  • Provide backup desktop support as needed, including on-call support.
  • Participate in budget development and management for assigned areas.
  • Provide work direction and mentoring to technical staff and assist other IT staff as necessary.
  • Assume supervisory duties to subordinate staff and consultants as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a closely related field.
  • Two years of professional Information Technology experience.
  • Valid California Class 'C' driver's license upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SQL.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools and Microsoft desktop/server operating systems.
  • Familiarity with web design and graphic arts software.
