About the position

The Business Intelligence Developer position at Johns Hopkins Health System is a critical role within the Information Technology category, focusing on data analytics and performance measures. This position operates under the supervision of a Data Trust Analytic Team Leader or other relevant leadership, which may involve a matrixed or direct reporting structure. The primary responsibility of this role is to support data analytics initiatives, which includes ongoing measurement, data collection, reporting, data visualization, and the dissemination of information. As subject matter experts in data, the Business Intelligence Developers work closely with IT solutions to address high-priority organizational analytic challenges. In this role, the developer will engage in the development and refinement of exploratory IT solutions, which encompasses coding, testing, debugging, designing, and implementing newly developed business intelligence solutions. The position requires a proactive approach to researching and planning analytic solutions for both existing and new problems as directed by supervisors and leadership. Additionally, the developer will lead the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence tools, ensuring that these applications enhance clinical and business decision-making capabilities. The role also involves working on advanced and complex technical projects or business issues that necessitate state-of-the-art technical or industry knowledge. Goals and objectives will be communicated in terms of solutions or project goals, and the developer will provide leadership within the work group through their specialized knowledge. Collaboration with other analytic teams and data warehouse engineers is essential to ensure the success of the projects undertaken.

Responsibilities

  • Support data analytics and performance measures through data collection, reporting, and visualization.
  • Develop and fine-tune exploratory IT solutions, including coding, testing, debugging, and implementing BI solutions.
  • Research and plan analytic solutions for existing and new organizational problems as directed by leadership.
  • Lead the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence tools.
  • Identify, research, and resolve technical problems independently.
  • Enhance clinical and business decision-making capabilities through the use of business intelligence applications.
  • Work on advanced technical projects or business issues requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Provide leadership within the work group through expertise in the area of specialization.
  • Collaborate with other analytic teams and data warehouse engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • EDW internal certification required within 6 months.
  • Certification such as Certified Analytics Professional, project management, or in a data analytic tool like Tableau Software or Epic required.
  • Ability to obtain Epic Caboodle or Clarity Certification within the first year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare IT, analytics, software development, or data management.
  • Experience with business intelligence development tools such as Tableau and SAS.
  • Proficiency in programming tools such as R, Python, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or management and experience working with external vendors.
