About the position

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join our dynamic team in North Reading, Massachusetts. This role is pivotal in leveraging data to inform automation efforts and enhance supportability across the Amazon Robotics product portfolio. As part of the Support Automation Systems (SAS) group, you will engage in discovering support cost drivers and utilizing this data to create tools and reports that automate manual processes for our support teams. You will collaborate closely with software and hardware engineers, as well as operations teams, to prioritize tasks, make feature trade-offs, and develop new tooling and automation capabilities. Your analytical skills will be crucial as you conduct insightful analyses and communicate your findings through white papers and reports. The methodologies you will employ include design of experiments, statistical modeling, machine learning, financial analysis, and data visualization, all while relying on internal data engineering capabilities. In this role, you will be a member of the Foundational Data Services team within SAS, working cross-functionally with engineering teams, program managers, and organizational leaders to deliver projects that aim to understand and reduce support cost drivers. You will utilize a combination of unified and disparate data sources to uncover insights, which will be delivered through decision-driving analytics white papers and automated data visualizations. Your collaboration with software engineers, technical program managers, and other business intelligence engineers will be essential in delivering world-class results for our customers. We are looking for a data professional who is passionate about delivering insightful and influential solutions to complex and ambiguous problems. You should possess a diverse skill set across data engineering, statistics, and data visualization to influence decision-making and improve automation across the organization. The ideal candidate will be able to think holistically about compound problems, understanding how systems interconnect and identifying new opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, statistics and predictions, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support the needs of the business.
  • Work through ambiguity to clean incomplete data sources and document assumptions.
  • Write high-quality SQL queries to retrieve data from database tables.
  • Build various data visualizations to tell the story of business trends, patterns, and outliers through graphic-rich customizable plots, data maps, and other rich visualizations.
  • Serve as liaison between the business and technical teams to achieve the goal of providing actionable insights.
  • Assist with and provide recommendations regarding trade-offs between data granularity, calculations, and rendering of BIE products especially dashboards and other data visualizations.
  • Apply deep business intelligence skills to extract meaningful insights and learning from large and complicated data sets.
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting: data integrity, test design, validation, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience with one or more analytics visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI)
  • 1+ years relevant experience in areas such as data analytics, data science, data modeling, statistical analysis, and data engineering
  • Working knowledge of scripting with R/Python for statistical analysis
  • Experience writing and optimizing moderate-to-complex SQL queries to analyze large amounts of data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data modeling and data pipeline design
  • Experience with AWS (Athena, S3, Glue, etc.)
  • Experience building advanced visualizations in Tableau
  • Demonstrated ability to take end-to-end ownership of projects, work collaboratively, and drive results.
