About the position

The Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) II role at Amazon's AMZL Strategic Planning-Analytics Automation team focuses on driving high-visibility analytics solutions to streamline operations. The position involves designing and supporting business analytics solutions that aid leadership in making impactful decisions, particularly in Topology Planning and Capacity Engineering. The successful candidate will leverage their analytical and technical skills to create scalable and efficient processes for large-scale data analysis, collaborating with Data Scientists and Engineers to simplify analytics through innovative data products.

Responsibilities

  • Partner extensively with Topology Planning and Capacity Engineering leaders to identify analytics needs and translate them into BIE solution designs.
  • Continuously review and update 'visualization standard' for a simplified analytics experience.
  • Design, develop, and test solutions to ensure data management processes and visualization outputs accurately represent business insights.
  • Develop best practices to reduce coding effort by reusing where applicable and replacing complex data handling steps with innovative designs and simpler tools.
  • Drive peers and stakeholders for optimal analysis solutions and maintain high standards in data and business logic usage.
  • Work backwards from KPIs used for business decisions and design analysis processes to automate with simple solutions.
  • Utilize AWS S3, Redshift, Athena, Quicksight, and Tableau to produce reliable BIE solutions and enable seamless integration with Strategic Planning and Excel models.
  • Apply working knowledge of Regression and Classification algorithms in collaboration with Research/Data Scientists.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with experience in Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, etc.
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS, and Matlab.
  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift.
  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc., and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
