About the position

The Business Intelligence Engineer role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on designing, developing, and implementing data structures for business intelligence analytics within the Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) team. This position requires a highly analytical individual who can generate insights from data to influence organizational direction, improve customer experience, and support data-driven decision-making. The role involves collaborating with various teams to deliver robust technical and analytical solutions, ensuring the highest standards of safety and security while optimizing performance and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for business intelligence analytics.
  • Implement data structures using best practices in data modeling for online reporting and analysis.
  • Gather business and functional requirements and translate them into scalable, operable solutions.
  • Analyze source data systems and drive best practices in source teams.
  • Analyze large amounts of data to discover and solve real-world problems, building metrics and business cases for decision-making.
  • Participate in the full development life cycle, from design to support and maintenance, producing comprehensive dataset documentation.
  • Evaluate dataset implementations proposed by peer data engineers and identify business process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent quantitative field.
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL, etc.
  • 4+ years of experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools.
  • 4+ years of experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • 4+ years of experience using SQL to pull data from databases and scripting experience (Python) for data processing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent quantitative field.
  • 4+ years of experience working as a BIE in a technology company.
  • 4+ years of experience in data mining, ETL, and using databases in a business environment with large-scale datasets.
  • 3+ years of experience with forecasting and statistical analysis.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift.
  • 3+ years of experience in statistical analysis packages such as R, SAS, and Matlab.
