About the position

The Business Intelligence Engineer II role at Amazon focuses on innovating and enhancing the Amazon Time & Pay (ATP) systems, which serve a vast number of employees across various sectors including Fulfillment Centers, Logistics, and Customer Service. This position is crucial for building the data infrastructure that supports these systems, enabling insights that influence product design and implementation. The role involves collaboration with engineers, product managers, and leadership to drive business intelligence and analytics, ultimately empowering Amazon's global workforce with a unified platform for managing their work time and pay.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, development, and management of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to support business needs.
  • Perform variance analyses and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting.
  • Own all SQL, Redshift, Quicksight, Tableau functions - ad hoc, recurring, and troubleshooting.
  • Build models, dashboards, and BI tools for real-time reporting and large-scale offline use cases.
  • Create persistent and scalable metrics to provide business insights into the product development function.
  • Work closely with Product Managers, Data Engineers, and software engineering teams to drive implementations of solutions.
  • Provide data management processes such as accessing raw data feeds, building queries and macros, writing VBA code, organizing data, and designing reports that present status-at-a-glance visualization for business performance.
  • Retrieve and analyze large sets of data using Excel, SQL, and other data management systems.
  • Build and manage related key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure, control, and benchmark reporting processes.
  • Monitor existing metrics, build new metrics, and partner with internal teams to identify process and system improvement opportunities.
  • Generate complex queries to dive deep on process issues.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS, and Matlab
  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
