About the position

The Business Intelligence Specialist position at the Employment Security Department (ESD) is a project role focused on data management and analysis. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in SQL, SSIS, SSRS, and Power BI to develop reports and maintain databases, supporting data-driven decision-making within the organization. This hybrid position allows for flexible work arrangements, with a requirement to work in the office up to two days a week in Olympia, WA, and is expected to last through December 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Power BI/SSRS reports and SSIS packages.
  • Write SQL queries to retrieve data from multiple data sources.
  • Direct and inform data issues for troubleshooting through data cleaning tables.
  • Design and develop Power BI reports and SSRS reports for recurring reporting needs.
  • Create a robust database for ongoing data collection, storage, and maintenance.
  • Design relational SQL databases (RDBMS) for ESD applications.
  • Develop table schemas and write SQL queries and stored procedures for CRUD operations and triggers for audits.
  • Conduct business analysis with program staff to understand their data/business needs.
  • Create reports for ad hoc data requests related to program policy questions and lawsuits.
  • Peer review SQL queries written by other team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or closely related field and 4 years of IT experience developing systems using service-oriented design and development.
  • Proficiency in SQL queries, SSIS packages, SSRS reports, and Power BI.
  • Experience with Azure and strong foundation in data structures.
  • Ability to conduct extensive data analysis and research to support data-driven decision-making.
